Orchards 3 - 6

Positioned within the Orchards precinct of Fairview Estate on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, this contemporary homestead forms part of a broader architectural system, offering a variation on a shared farmstead language set within orchards and open countryside. The living pavilion, bedroom wing and separate barn are arranged around a central entrance courtyard, refining the same compositional principles through a distinct spatial configuration that responds to climate, views and site. A restrained material palette and deliberate organisation maintain continuity across the system, while allowing each home to sit lightly within the landscape as a unique interpretation of farm living.

Site response
-
The placement of the buildings is informed by orientation, views and prevailing coastal conditions, ensuring a comfortable and responsive environment. The courtyard acts as a sheltered threshold, protecting the home from wind while allowing light and views to penetrate deep into the plan.
